Guided salmon & sea trout fishing in Ätran, Falkenberg
The Ätran in Falkenberg runs right through the center of town.
On summer evenings you can go fishing while soaking up the pulse of the city.
Music from the outdoor dining areas, the dikes' open-air theater etc.
Nothing that disturbs, but can be a nice setting.
Falkenberg has a really good range of exciting places to eat with several restaurants which is included in the White guide, so it is absolutely perfect to combine fishing with some good food.
The lower parts of Ätran have been rewritten in recent years because they demolished itthe former power plant dam that was located at Herting's power plant and restored the flow.
Which has given a fantastic result for the salmon which can pass up much more easily to their spawning areas.
And Hertingforsen itself has immediately started producing a lot of smolt.
So the future looks bright for Ätran.
The fishing takes place on the bottom 3 kilometers of the river, which means that the fishing is also good for reallow water.
Ätran is also known to fish really well in warm summer water too.
When summer makes fishing hopeless for many rivers, it's really rewarding here.
April-June, it is salmon of approx 3,5 - 10 kilos that is most common.
(April with some sea trout).
Mid-June-mid-August, it is the small salmon that dominates, approx 1 - 3 kg.
A fishing that is really good and a bit of our favorite, as there is often a lot going on.
Aug-Sept it is the light colored fish that dominates, then all sizes are usually available on the cut. With a lot of aggressive male salmon.
Sea trout fishing usually starts in the middle of June and continues throughout the season.
In slightly worse weather, sea trout fishing can be really good.
1-3 kg dominate, but fish of 4-7 kg are caught at regular intervals.
At the bottom of the stretch there are a couple of nice rapid sections, further up there are a bit more calm flowing sections.
Spin fishing, fly fishing and shrimp fishing are allowed.
You usually do well with a light two-handed or one-handed rod.
But at really high water, slightly heavier gear may be required.
The structure of our guided tours is that we go through how the situation looks in the river, suitable equipment, flies etc.
Then we walk along the river and fish the hot spots.
We show and give advice on how and where you fish in the best way, which flies apply to which the season etc.
With full-day guiding, we sometimes break for lunch for a few hours, and then meet again at
the agreed place when you feel ready.
Alternatively, you fish for the whole day in a row.
The chance of catching is good in Ätran, but as with all salmon fishing, many factors come
into play.
But we will do our best so that you get the most out of your visit to Ätran.
The river is easily forded in many places and long casts are rarely needed.
Usually the other way around, not infrequently the salmon bite on a fairly short line.
So if you want to try salmon fishing in a lovely environment, you are warmly welcome to Falkenberg.
For half-day guiding, we go either morning or evening.
